Introducing TransparUNCy Press
Launching our student-run publication—and calling all UNC students who want to join the movement!
If you attended our DEI ban teach-in on April 4th, you might remember Interim Chancellor Roberts refusing to comment on the “hypothetical” that we would soon see anti-DEI legislation in NC, claiming that no such efforts existed.
Less than two months later, the BoG removed DEI from the UNC policy manual under the guise of protecting “institutional neutrality” across the system’s 16 universities. The UNC-CH BoT chose to award the $2.3 million DEI initiative budget to campus police, a group that within recent months especially, has been utilized for purposes far from neutral.
To learn more about the BoT’s decision, watch our latest TransparUNCy video below.
You can also check out “DEI, Neutrality, and White Supremacy” written by Emma Culley for our newly launched student publication, TransparUNCy Press.
Stay up to date with us and our work throughout the summer as we will be publishing TransparUNCy Press pieces every Monday followed by a newsletter on Wednesday providing action items for the remainder of the summer and next semester. If you are a UNC student interested in writing, DM us on Instagram below!
You can also read another student perspective: “Opinion: UNC’s political statement on DEI” by Julian Taylor on Triblogblog.
Unlike the BoG and BoT may hope, even when students are not on campus we are still watching and we will not let their actions go unnoticed.
