Hello from the transparUNCy team!
This coming Wednesday, September 25th, is UNC’s “First Amendment Day.” The university loves to talk about its commitment to the First Amendment and especially free speech. This First Amendment Day, we’ll be holding a teach-in about where UNC really stands on speech and assembly.
Come out to Union 3408, THIS WEDNESDAY AT 4PM to talk about how UNC hides its suppression of students under the disguises of ‘safety, civility, and discourse.’
For those of you who already attended this teach-in earlier this month, please spread the word to your friends, professors, etc. and we’d love to see you there again too! Please note this teach-in will be beginning at 4pm and not our usual 5pm.
Thank you to everyone who braved the rain to attend our teach-in last week on racial violence and the public university. We wanted to share the resources we used to create that teach-in for those who had more questions or could not attend. The resources below give a glimpse into UNC’s and NC’s racial histories and how we are so deeply tied to them today. We strongly encourage you to look into these materials to learn more about how UNC has always been representative of North Carolina’s politics and not its population.
